AKA Pella Video Taken Down

Filed under: Uncategorized — jewishmusic @ 10:52 am

It seems that AKA Pella has taken down their controversial movie, most probably in no small part because of the comments on this blog.

R’ Yankel, who frequently posts on behalf of AKA Pella (who are you?) insists that the movie was taken down at the request of the parents of the main actor in the movie.

If the parents of the guy in the movie have a problem with it, should you?

It seems that the video is now being hosted by google videos instead of youtube. So much for the parents’ request.

  1. Did you not read Reb Yankel’s previous response?

He answered this question – the fact that the family had a problem with their son’e presence on the internet does not make the video itself an issue. For all we know the family would have had a problem with a video of their son giving over a d’var torah. They obviously weren’t comfortable with their son being the subject of an amusing clip.

So to answer your question, NO, just because the family had a problem with their son on a video -it does not follow that you should.

Frakly, other than the background music – can someone please tell me what exactly is so inapropriate about the video. Maybe I’ve just become insensitive to these things but that video seemed fairly harmless.

  2. Ok do you want me to tell you? Should I tell you what was so horrible about your little video?!

If you guys are supposed to be representing the “frum” world, why is it so heavily focused on women? Are we goyim who are running after the ladies?! Is that what should be on our minds, during the three weeks. Obviously that is all that is on your mind.

You also showed the guy touching the girl!! Did you goyim hear about shomer negiah!? What kind of influence are you having on our children? If my kid comes home and asks me if it is mutter to touch girls, I now know where he will have even thought to ask this from. (you am haaratzim)

Then you had the guy get disgusted by the girls looks. Is that what is important when looking for a shidduch? I don’t think so. But that is what you are teaching our children.

I’m not even going to get into whether it is mutter to step foot in a baseball field (makom hatumah).

A frum guy in a bar? Running after an untznius lady?! Oh that is something to teach our children.

Basically you have encouraged bad middos all around. Do you think that will help you sell your CD? More like encourage people not to buy your cd. You should be ashamed.

  3. Wow. i didn’t realize the video was so educational. Childeren are being taught all that just from a video.

Obviously Asher Berkowitz is not seriously responding to my inquiry. I invite Aryeh to respond in a more logical fashion.

Aryeh, please break it down for me. What is the real problem with the video (other than the music)??

  4. Cap’t Obvious:

Please do not speak on my behalf – R’Yankel can more than defend himself… although i do thank you for your support.

So the big mystery – “who is r’yankel”??

While i’d like to keep my true identity under wraps – I can honestly tell you that I am not nor have i ever been a member of aka pella – I do not care for jewish music – but I am close with several of the aka pella members and recognize a good thing when i see it.

I am ultimately a seeker of the truth.

I am here as a manhig ruchani and have made it my business to promote free thinking and uncensored opinions. If I see BS I point it out – I will not hesotate to call you out as a hypocrite.

So when I see anonymous bloggers getting all bent out of shape over a silly video clip – it make me wonder – why are they overreacting? After all these same bloggers are online looking for entertainment and amusment – the watch TV, movies, listen to the radio – yet they go bazirk when they see a harmless video clip featuring a harmless GOYISH song (with a conspicuous WARNING)… what makes these phoney zealots tick… tune in next time and R’Yankel will tell all…

  5. Everywhere I go on this blog it’s AKA Pella this and AKA Pella that.
I downloaded their song and it’s sounds realy amazing and now I went out and bought their album and am really impressed. Now I wanted to post a greeting on their guestbook so googled them and got to this.
Btw,Dudu Fisher will be giving a concert shabbos Nachamu.
Hello?Anybody catch that. That’s big news.Doesn’t anybody actually report on Jewish music anymore.I hope you put up a link Aryeh. That guy can sing.

  6. I heard it’s back up!Yay!

  7. I couldn’t agree with Mr. Berkowitz any more. You guys are lost souls. I wish you much success on your journey in the frum world. I hope you find yourselves and leave the chinuch of our children out of your distasteful videos.

Instead of answering his points you once again pushed it aside under the guise of “everyone online is a sinner”, which is just not the case.

Why isn’t it possible that some people who like Jewish music, come online to these Jewish music blogs and the yahoo Jewish music group just to read about Jewish music. Your assumptions are sad and it speaks to the spiritual state of the creators of these videos.

One final thought, “Reb” Yankel,. your gaivah is a sad projection of the issue at hand.

    Comment by My Two Sense — July 23, 2006 @ 3:08 pm

  8. Dear All:

    1. I did not side step any of the issues – I have yet to here one reason (other than the music) as to why the video was so terrible?

    2. I do not have a problem with people genuinely looking to discuss “jewish music” in forums such as these – however i find it extemely peculiar that people such as yourself only come out of the woodworks when there is something controversial (and arguably unrelated with jewish music)on the blogs.

If people such as yourself are so interested in discussing jewish music – then why has there been such a dismal response to Aryeh’s other posts. Look around buddy – the sad truth is that no one really gives a crap about your typical MBD, Avraham Fired, Maimi Boys…etc. albums. Because if people cared there would be a heck of a lot more responses.

The average number of posts Aryeh gets on his other comments is a whopping 2. One by Aryeh himslef and then one more by some anonymous blogger indicating that there was a typo in the original post. Most often there are ZERO posts.

My point is that – people like yourself don’t realy come online to discuss jewish music – who are ypou kidding – you come online for amusement and hock! Much like us all.

The difference between R’Yankel and yourself is that R’ Yankel admitts that he bloggs for his amusement – you (and others like yourself) on the other hand would have us believe that you just want to discuss jewish music and are disgusted by aka pella’s forms of entertainment.

PAAAALEEEEEAAAAZE! You love it! This is more entertainement for you and the rest of the anonymouskateers than you could get from any jewish music blog –
aka pella finally gave you guys something to get excited about –

What has MBD done for you lately.

And regarding the “we’re all sinners comment” – I keep repeating this – anyone who legitimately does not care to bring goyish music into their homes or online experience is not under gunpoint!!! They simply can chose not to download the video! So why do we keep bringing our kids, wives, the elederly etc. into these conversations – the aka pella video like e/t else is there for those that are intersted – no one was beaten into watching it!

whooo – r’ yankel is exhausted

  9. Just for the record,I would like to point out that Aryeh has not given us reviews of Yossi and Yerachmiel, and i haven’t seen any review on V’hacohanim.
Hey why does AKA Pella get all the attention.
Yossi and Yerachmiel please?I want to know about their choice of reverb and on some of the tracks and if their arrangemnts are up to par with that of contemporary standards.R’ Yankel, other groups also need a spokesperson.
This is a travesty.Yahoo jewish group.AKA Pella AKA Pella, AkA Pella.Move over AKA Pella.Let someone else have some blog time.

  10. Yossi and Yerachmiel is under review. I started the review, I sent in a 60 second review for the Sameach podcast, I just haven’t completed writing the review for this blog. I decided to wait until after the three weeks until I finalize the review because I like to listen to the album while I’m writing the review, and although technically I probably have a heter to listen to music during the 3 weeks, I’d rather not.

Has Dudu Fisher come out with an album recently that I can review? If you’ve got a poster for his Shabbos Nachamu concert, please email it to me and I will post it among the others.

  12. I have a bootleg videe clip of “the Dudu” singing hatikva at the 84′ concert in Ecuador. Classic. You have not seen Dudu until you see that clip. Simply amazing.

  14. I think you meant this link. Funny, if the parents wanted it down, how come its right here?

  15. Don’t look at that… it’s a bootlegged version – completely unauthorized – FEH!!

    Why I oghta!!

  16. For the sake of achdus durring the three weeks cant we put our petty differences aside – those with and those without a sense of humor and just admit that AKA Pella is the best dang music ever. GOSH!

PS You guyses are just jealous that Ive been chatting online with maidelach all day.

  17. yknow, in all seriousness, that carlebach gospel music is pretty good. do they do weddinngs and bar/bat mitzvahs?

  18. I honestly don’t understand why people would be offended by that video. I actually thought it was quite humorous. Obviosly the actor in the video had no problem with it either otherwise he would have declined to appear in the video. I also thought that the video was trying to make light of the so-called “Shidduch Crisis” that is going on in the frum world. People need to lighten up and stop getting offended by people just trying to have some fun.

    Comment by FrumWithQuestions — July 24, 2006 @ 3:00 pm

  19. frumwithquestions,

after reading the many mishiganah annonymous posts the last few days on this blog, i can understand why u have questions. the video WAS intended to poke fun at the shiduch scene and at the same time play off the “single” concept. As you will find out by reading this blog, there are people here who fancy themselves uber-yeshivish with no sense of humor or logic in debating (a routine retort will be “…oh yea, well u guys r stupid heads” or “…well I can’t listen to your music cus im so much frummer than you.”) Soon, you will find that if you dont take them seriously and just read their comments they are quite amusing.

PS AKA Pella will be back with a bigger, better, and more controversial video 😉

    Comment by the director — July 24, 2006 @ 3:21 pm

  20. Director–

Are you a member of AKA pella? Are you somehow involved in the project? Or are you just choosing to speak for AKA pella for the heck of it.

When I asked a member of AKApella if he or the other members had posted on this blog, he said “no”.

Which leads me to believe that you, r yankel, and every other person who claims to be speaking for the group are complete frauds!!

I just want to let you know that what you are doing is sick. Group members Avi Stewart, Zevy Daniel, Dovie Ziffer and Elly Ganz have all stated that you and the rest of your cronies have nothing to do with them. Basically, get a life and stop pretending to be more important than you are.

    Comment by asher berkowitz — July 24, 2006 @ 3:49 pm

  21. I’ve got to agree with asher – if you have something accurate to say, you should have no problem revealing your identity and how you know what you say.

    Comment by keyboardguy — July 24, 2006 @ 3:52 pm

  22. Yes Asher,

I have nothing to do with AKA Pella or those members you listed – notice I wasn’t tlaking about them or their music. What is sick about what I am doing exactly? Why are you so mad? How am I trying to be important? By putting an opinion on a blog?

I was just asked to direct/produce this video and therefore I believe that I am entitled to say what my intentions were with this video. BTW keyboardguy, that last line at the end about No Chassidim Were Used was an inside joke we threw in for you and your fellow bloggers to discuss;)

    Blog On!

    Comment by the director — July 24, 2006 @ 4:33 pm

  23. I think you should have used Chassidim. The actor was good but ah “choosid” would have been funnier

  24. director-

I got the joke – good job on directing – it’s very well done.

    Comment by keyboardguy — July 24, 2006 @ 7:59 pm

  25. I also received an email request to post the video. I thought it was cute, but was surprised to hear the mostly secular soundtrack, with actual song playing very quietly at the end of the track.

Between the war and the three weeks, I didn’t see much of an opening to put it up. Guess I don’t have to worry about it now.
